Guidance before first use:
Before first use, soak the tagine in water for 3-5 hours and then let it dry completely. (For the tagine lid this process is not necessary). If you rarely use the tagine it’s wise to soak it again for an hour and let it dry before using it again. You can use the tagine on virtually any heat source. On a wood fire, on the stove (with flame distributor), or on an electric/ceramic hob and in the oven. When used on a ceramic plate, avoid sliding to prevent scratching the surface. It is also important to avoid abrupt temperature variations and to only use the tagine on a heat source which has a diameter as large as or larger than the base of the tagine – this to avoid temperature differences within the tagine base, which could cause the base to break upon heating.
The tagine (as well as the El Toro Oven Dishes) can safely be heated up to 300 degrees Celsius.
